摘要:
In today’s era, where globalization and digitalization are profoundly intertwined, English—serving as the core language of international communication—has assumed an importance in reading and writing that extends far beyond the scope of language learning. It has become a critical capability for individuals to engage in the global knowledge economy, cross-cultural communication, and academic innovation. Meanwhile, digital humanities, an emerging field that integrates the humanities with digital technologies, is reshaping research paradigms and educational models across numerous disciplines at an unprecedented pace, breathing new vitality into and creating fresh opportunities for the development of traditional humanities. Against this backdrop, the authors of this volume—drawing upon their solid expertise in English education, extensive teaching experience, and keen insight into digital technologies—offer an in-depth examination of how digital humanities comprehensively permeate and transform the field of English reading and writing. This book does not merely list the applications of digital tools in English teaching;rather, it traces their theoretical roots and systematically elaborates on the profound influence of digital humanities on the nature, processes, and objectives of English reading and writing, constructing a coherent and well-structured theoretical and practical framework. From redefining the connotations of English reading and writing in the digital age, to exploring how digital technologies can optimize teaching strategies;from employing big data to analyze students’ reading–writing behavior patterns for personalized instructional guidance, to leveraging digital platforms to expand resources and communicative spaces that foster intercultural literacy—each chapter presents both cutting-edge scholarly perspectives and highly actionable pedagogical solutions.

Preface
Reading this book is akin to embarking on a journey into the future of English education. In this journey, digital technologies serve as a magical key, breaking the spatio-temporal constraints of traditional English reading–writing instruction, making learning more flexible, efficient, and personalized. Data mining and analytics act as astute observers, accurately identifying learners’ needs and challenges to provide scientific support for instructional decision-making. Emerging technologies such as virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) function as skillful directors, creating immersive contexts for English reading and writing that spark students’ curiosity and creativity. More importantly, from the perspective of digital humanities, this book redefines English reading and writing: no longer merely a matter of skill training, but a key pathway to fostering cultural understanding, critical thinking, and creativity. This redefinition charts a new course for the value orientation of English education and envisions a broader and more meaningful future for the field.
Whether you are a researcher in English education, a frontline teacher, an educator interested in applying digital technologies to teaching, or a learner eager to enhance your own reading and writing skills in English, this book offers significant reference value and inspiration. It invites readers to re-examine every facet of English reading–writing instruction and learning, to kindle enthusiasm and motivation for exploring new educational models in the digital era, and to take firmer, more confident strides along the path toward the future of English education. The publication of this book will, without doubt, attract wide attention and stimulate in-depth reflection in the English education community, making an important contribution to the digital transformation and innovative development of English education.
